Yacht Rock

Posted on October 25th, 2006 in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

My coolio friend Rich in Westbound Train, currently touring with what’s left of the English Beat, asked me if I was hip to Yacht Rock. I’ve discovered The Hype Machine, which has changed listening to music for me forever, no more scouring Gorilla vs. Bear, Pitchfork and My Old Kentucky blog, which I can now add to my RSS feeder for random reading.

Cisco Does Telepresence

Posted on October 24th, 2006 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Scoble does a videoblog of Cisco’s new high def video-conferencing, ahem, I mean telepresence system. My friend Kris used to do the poor man’s version of this, each side of the conversation has a bench right up against the monitor, and a fax machine on both sides. $300,000 for three life-sized HD screens. I want one.

Happy Birthday To Me

Posted on October 21st, 2006 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I turn 27 for the 11th time today. Off on a hike, then to see 30,000 pumpkins on Boston Common and a night out with friends. Who said getting older isn’t fun?

Yes some of the blog graphics are broken, working on that.

Boston Blogtoberfest, a Big Success

Posted on October 20th, 2006 in Uncategorized | 5 Comments »

Blogtoberfest Boston Blogtoberfest was great fun last night. I didn’t know a soul, and no bloggers in attendance mentioned me in their blogs today, but I still had fun and a lot of vodka and have the Flickr photos to prove it. My evening ended with me face to face with a 1/2 naked man wielding a meat cleaver (*outside a friend’s apartment no less), which, if you know me, is about par when I go out for A Big Night.

Props to Jenny for setting it up and all the other great people for traveling near and far to be at Match.

Was is me or all female bloggers around Boston very cool? I was expecting, heck I didn’t know what to expect, but these gals definitely have got game. There were only 5-7 guys, I was told they hide behind their blogs and don’t come out much.

I’m not much of a “this is what I’m thinking, this is what I ate for breakfast kind of blogger”, I’ll leave that to the cool kids. My main blog is here is you’re interested.

I turn 38 in exactly 12 hours. Shudder.

Media Temple Crushes Shared Hosting

Posted on October 17th, 2006 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Gridserverlogo Media Temple launched a major new hosting service this morning called Grid Server. It matches low end shared hosting services in pricing ($20/month) but promises to grow along with the site, manage huge short term traffic spikes without a disruption in service or performance and avoid the “bad neighbor” problem common with shared hosting services. The basic $20 package includes 100 GB of storage, 1 TB of bandwidth and up to 100 individual sites.
Customer sites are not hosted on a single (dedicated, shared or virtual) machine. Instead, they are managed by hundreds of clustered servers, and Media Temple monitors the health of the entire grid as well as individual sites. If a site spikes in traffic, performance is unaffected and the site owner will simple be charged for overage on bandwidth and CPU usage. If the grid begins to get stressed, Media Temple simply adds more machines.

This is the first time I’ve received email from Myspace phishers. The beginning looks somewhat legit, but then read the bottom, see the references to Windows Registry keys?
