What is an I-Name?
For individuals, an i-name is a universal private address. That means:
• A single unified lifetime address that only you control, so it never has to change no matter how many times you move, change jobs, change email addresses, etc.
• One address for all the ways to reach you - email, snail mail, instant messaging, phone, fax, cell, etc. Finally, a one-line business card!
• An address that can’t be spammed and will never reveal any of your contact data or other personal information without your explicit permission.
• An address that automatically maintains an address book of everyone with whom it has been shared and what permissions you have given them to use it.
• An address that can be as easy to remember as your own name in your own native language.
• An address that will serve as a single sign-on to all Dataweb enabled sites. No longer will you need to remember multiple login names and passwords. With an i-name you have only one login name and one password to remember for all your online transactions.
I-names are based on the new XRI (Extensible Resource Identifier) standard from OASIS, the Internet’s leading XML standards body. XRI is one of the most significant new developments in Internet infrastructure since the advent of the World Wide Web.
