I am definitely going to Blogtoberfest next Month. Last year we had a great time until I was confronted by a crazy man brandishing a meat cleaver later on in the evening. Sometimes it’s best to go straight home after a party.

Web 3.0: Identity, Attention and Reputation

Apologies for the 3.0 moniker, but blog readers are brutally selective when searching for interesting headlines.

I’ve been thinking a lot more aboutÂ identity, attention and reputation. These reoccurring themes keep popping up in my consulting work and the blogosphere has no shortage of pundits who opine about the role of identity from time to time.

I continue to think Windows Cardspace could be a central theme to open profiles, attention and identity silos. The problem is that the current state of play is that the documentation is for developers, the test suites are stale and most of the blog posts about it are almost a year old. That is definitely not they way you want to roll out a potentially enormous shift in how people are represented on the Internet.

The architects and developers will continue to evolve the underlying protocols, improve security measures and create usable browser plug-ins and manageable datastores.

I want to start talking about how identity, attention and reputation are going to change how we interact with each other, web services, communities and institutions.

I will continue to maintain partial focus on emerging internet trends and the Boston Internet scene, as we are seriously underrepresented in the blogosphere and the MSM (main stream media).

David Beisel Leaves Masthead for Venrock

David Beisel, leader of the Boston Web Innovators Group, has joined Venrock.

After a couple of great years at Masthead, I have decided to leave and join Venrock.Â Based in the Cambridge office, I will remain focused on early-stage venture investments in the digital media sector (primarily in the internet and mobile spaces).Â And as part of that practice, I will continue to blog at GenuineVC and lead the Boston Web Innovators Group.

Good luck to David, I’m looking forward to this month’s WebInno, and the upcoming dinners and other associated events. Now, if they would get that wiki so that it actually did something useful.

Boston High-tech hiring Looks up

My post on last week’s Boston WebInnovators group led to a mention in today’s Boston Herald. Unfortunately they got my blog url wrong but it’s still nice to get some local exposure. I agree with David Beisel, itâ€™s not 1999 but things are looking up. See you at the next event, which is Tuesday May 22nd 2007 at 6:30pm at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge.
